13th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Reception and Awards Presentation
Students, families, faculty, and staff, gathered together on Thursday to celebrate the Prep's 13th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Legacy Reception. Julie DeFillippo, head of school at Bellisini Academy, and Laura Bell, associate director of donor and trustee relations at St. John's, were recognized for their tireless work towards making St. John's a welcoming and inclusive community.
Presented to Julie DeFillippo the No One Walks Alone Advocacy Award recognizes a member of the extended Prep community who serves as a role model and agent of change within and beyond the school community. In addition to her role as Head of School at Bellisini Academy in Lawrence, Julie has served on the Education Committee at SJP for more than a decade and has been a dedicated partner to students who wish to attend St. John's after Bellesini. She is a beacon of support for students and alumni as they journey through high school and college. The Justice and Equity Award recognizes members of the Prep community who embody King’s steps toward the goal of social justice by fostering a caring, welcoming environment; working toward cultural competence and awareness; and giving their time and service freely to those in need without question and often without recognition. Laura Bell has been instrumental in collaborating with the MACD Office, serving Catholic Schools Foundation students, and supporting the vision and efforts in our growth as a culturally responsive school community.
Hosted by the Prep's Office of Multicultural Affairs and Community Development, the annual ceremony, honors recipients who have embodied King’s pursuit of fairness and equity by creating opportunities for change. A very special thank you to Raisa Carrasco-Vélez, director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Community Development and her team in the MACD office; the MACD Student Advisory Council; the Jazz Combo; and SwingTown! for making this important evening a success.
