Chinese Classes Field Trip Peabody Essex Museum
Our 8th, 11th, & 12th-grade students visited Yin Yu Tang House at the Peabody Essex Museum on November 7th. Yin Yu Tang House is a 200-year-old Chinese house that was brought to America and re-erected at the Peabody Essex Museum. On our visit, Maureen Bingham, a retired school principal, was the tour guide for our 8th graders. The two high school tour guides Ellen Pramas (mother of Jason Pramas ‘84 and Chris Pramas 87), and Norbert Florendo (father of Colin Florendo 90) are parents of our alumni. The professional tour guides’ wonderful explanations help our students to learn more about Chinese history and culture during the visit.
For lunch, the students went to a Chinese restaurant Sunkong in Malden and had delicious authentic Chinese food, Dim Sum. The most popular dishes were steamed buns stuffed with barbecued roast pork and sweet and sour chicken. After lunch, students went to a Chinese supermarket to explore authentic Chinese snacks that are not available in an American store. They brought home their favorite drinks, Chinese iced tea, and boba tea. The trip was very successful, and our students had a wonderful time.
