Gender Justice Week at SJP!
The big reveal! As part of Gender Justice Week, students and staff organized a "portrait reveal" and open mic session in Campus Ministry after school today. The portraits feature women who work at St. John's, and all were taken by members of the Photography Club. During the open mic that followed, students and teachers shared personal stories, poetry and readings that spoke to issues of gender. It was a fun, honest and powerful exchange of experiences and ideas. Earlier in the week, a group of graduate students from Merrimack College kicked off the program with four after-school workshops that zoned in on a number of topics: how the news media shapes our attitudes toward gender, how we perceive identity on social media, the college dating scene, and portrayals of men and women in movies and on television.
